What are the problems?

I have divided up the various problems I intend to discuss into four main areas; those being political, economic, social and environmental. Clearly, many specific problems will fall into more than one area, and almost all of the issues I intend to address are heavily interrelated, but this rough categorisation should help to give a sense of order to the vastly different challenges facing America today. In no particular order:

Political problems

In tackling political problems in the United States, some selection is necessary in order to avoid becoming overwhelmed with issues that, while serious, are not directly relevant to the main goal of this website. Topics such as the inherent flaws in the two-party system or the electoral college system of voting will be ignored unless directly relevant, since these have existed since long before the current convergence of crises, and similar flaws exist in every other equivalent system.
