Why America Sucks

Decades of resource mismanagement, misguided and ineffectual political meddling and an apathetic, disinterested populace are causing the United States of America to regress economically, politically and socially, and in all likelihood will be a leading contributor to further decades of global recession and political turmoil. Stubborn bullishness and the unwillingness of all parties to effect meaningful change against corporate greed and political corruption have locked the nation into a downward spiral where each new problem, caused by the counterproductive response to the last, is met with an increasingly aggressive reiteration of the previous reaction instead of the extended deep analysis that is required.

These problems manifest throughout the politic, economic and social spheres; most notably through the absurd levels of administrative corruption and deception now occurring at many levels of government, the United States’ absolute reliance on diminishing supplies of foreign oil for the basic functioning of the economic system, and the remarkably rapid and quiet erosion of civil liberties justified largely by government-backed social hysteria regarding terrorism.

These problems are of course not easy to remedy and solutions must be considered in the long-term, with numerous difficult obstacles to overcome before real progress can be made. The appalling apathy of the majority of the American public towards the current situation and the unwillingness of the judicial branch of government to exercise any sort of power in regards to the blatant and frequent disregard for the law shown by the highest members of the administration are perhaps two of the most important. Both of these ingredients allow for a situation in which government officials are aware that they can get away with anything, with the corollary that they will do anything to get in power, and to keep hold of it once it is theirs.

My intention with this site is to continually reaffirm and justify the assertions made above, and to document the political, economic and social changes occurring in America and around the world as a result of these problems. Whenever possible, I hope to suggest positive actions that may be taken to alleviate the effects or help remove the root causes of these problems.

What I do not expect to realistically achieve is direct persuasion of those still unwilling to acknowledge that a situation exists. The facts are plain and the conclusions inescapable, but the internet fundamentally fails to be a place where minds are changed or beliefs challenged. Websites lack the intrinsic authority so misused by mainstream media, and it is only through the collection and dissemination of available information to those already aware of the current crises that further action can be taken to truly spread awareness.
